An optometrist took to TikTok to answer a common question that most people with perfect vision have already asked: what do nearsighted and farsighted people see without their glasses?

Hunter Emond has racked up over 20 million views on his example of what and how a myopic person sees without any correction. Myopia is a condition in which you can see things clearly up close but not far away. Using a lens from her desk, she blurred the camera’s vision and showed TikTokers what it’s like to walk around nearsighted.

Tristan Mack Wilds shares his 5-step skincare routine for stress flare-ups:

“I was shocked at how clearly people see the first time I put on glasses,” one person said in the comments.

“Sometimes I forget that’s not what everyone sees,” added another.

Nearsightedness, or nearsightedness, is very common and over 40% of Americans have it, although to varying degrees depending on the person.

According to the Atlantic Eye Institute, nearsightedness means that everything doesn’t line up properly when light enters your eyes — instead of hitting the focal point directly on the retina, the light will hit in front of the retina. The proportions of the eyes change as the eye grows, which is why most people who are diagnosed with myopia discover it before the age of 20.

As for farsightedness, or farsightedness, which is when you can see things from afar but struggle when something is very close, Emond used another lens to demonstrate to what a text might look like in a book or on a computer for someone with clairvoyance.

“It’s so crazy to [me]said one commenter. “How can they see far away but not up close like HOWW?!?”

“Trying to read up close without glasses is so frustrating,” said another. “I’m still so close to being able to make out the words, but instead I have a headache.”

Vision problems, especially farsightedness, are known to cause headaches. Many people are farsighted without knowing it because the eyes can compensate for some of the blurring and can fill in the words. Left untreated, it can cause a lot of eye strain.

Fortunately, vision problems can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or even surgery. Lasik is described as the most successful elective procedure in the world, with high satisfaction rates among patients and nearly 100% of patients achieving perfect vision afterwards.
