Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Star Xochitl Gomez explains how America Chavez could fit into The Multiverse Saga and shares his views on a possible solo or team-up release with The Avengers.
During last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios stole the show in Hall H after revealing numerous movies and TV shows that will be part of “The Multiverse Saga.” Culminating with Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Warsthe next phases should be absolutely epic, and there’s probably one character who will be key to that.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we were introduced to America Chavez from Xochitl Gomez. The reality-hopping teenager has the ability to travel across the multiverse, and as the only heroine we know of with this power, you have to believe she’ll be key to defeating Kang the Conqueror.
Talking to us this week on the occasion of the release of strange doctor sequel on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD, Gomez shared his reaction to the big news that came out of Comic-Con.
“I saw [The Multiverse Saga announcement] and I was like, ‘Oooh!’ I mean, I didn’t get a call or anything. I haven’t been told what’s next for America, but obviously, as a fan, I was listening to the things that were unfolding, and I was like, ‘Oh, there’s a possibility that the America be totally into this!” “ she says in the video below. “So, fingers crossed. I’m really excited to see what happens because the multiverse… there’s limitless possibilities with this.”
Later, we asked the actor how it felt to see fans embracing America and the very vocal desire for the character to appear in his own Disney+ TV series or movie. To this, Gomez expressed her gratitude and returned to the importance of the multiverse, and potentially America Chavez, in this saga.
“It’s pretty crazy that not only do people love the character, but they want to see more of it. They haven’t told me what’s next for my character, but obviously I can’t ignore that the powers of the character. America are, you know, Multiverse and the next MCU chapter is called The Multiverse Saga [Laughs].”
“I just hope America Chavez has a role to play in this and I hope it plays out over the next four years or so,” she added. “Who knows!”
On whether she thinks America should come together alongside the Avengers or the Young Avengers, all Gomez would say is: “I’m literally ready for anything. Like give me a five minute appearance…not even that. Two seconds! I’ll do it [Laughs].”
We obviously can’t underestimate America’s importance going further in The Multiverse Saga, and with the hero gaining control of her powers with Wong’s help in Kamar Taj, she may soon be the only able to stop Kang. If nothing else, the teenager is going to be a key player in the war looming on the horizon, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on what’s to come.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available now on digital and will be released on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD on July 26.
